Hey fellow jammers! I'm a new member to the pit, and came across this and thought it was incredibly cool that everyone is sharing their thoughts through poetry. I'm a huge fan of Shakespeare, and write a lot of sonnets when inspired. I thought i would share some with you all. I know some people think sonnets are not meant for today's age, but i think it is a brilliant form of poetry that is meaningful in any time. Anyhow, this is the first one i'd like to share, and hopefully i can continue to post more over time.

Beloved

Love hath rendered many virtues within,
Yet in my life fear engagement throughout.
Commitment, so tempting, yet is it sin
To build a bond that is so filled with doubt?
My love, so far, denies her loving kiss.
While others become my sight I forget
This love I hope forever I won’t miss;
Or else be drowned in a sea of regret.
An angel of tempt may pursueth me,
Yet I’ll hold firm, like a brick in a wall.
And in my new sight, actually see,
What lies in her that is lackèd in all.
Wait, I will, for my dear love that is true.
All others, I smile, and bid thee adieu.

I wrote this about a girl I thought I was in love with who moved away and we swore we would be together after college. Well, life happened, I met someone else I've fallen more in love with, and we've been together for over a year now.

Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Peace,
Eric

  • That's amazing.
    really nice.
I am not much of a formalist, but i do appreciate the work.
I prefer free verse, but this is rockin'!
    I waited all day.
    You waited all day..
    but you left before sunset..
and I just wanted to tell you
    the moment was beautiful.
Just wanted to dance to bad music
    drive bad cars..
    watch bad tv..
should have stayed for the sunset...
    if not for me.
  • that's good. thanks for sharing.
