funny, how we finally want the same things in life
ironic, how they aren't what we wanted at the start
hysterical, how we have fooled ourselves
amusing, how you lied to me all this time
sad, how we have ended up.
I've never met Ed,never shook his hand, talked to him or had my picture taken with him.
But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Funnily, this is making me think of a beautiful poem by Louis Macneice, called Coda:

Maybe we knew each other better
When the night was young and unrepeated
And the moon stood still over Jericho.

So much for the past; in the present
There are moments caught between heart-beats
When maybe we know each other better.

But what is that clinking in the darkness?
Maybe we shall know each other better
When the tunnels meet beneath the mountain.

that dude was obviously much more romantic than I.
maybe a little less cynical too.
