out of love

I smooth out the wrinkles
I pull back your hair
I feel the abrasions
that shouldn't be there
I can see in your eyes
that it wouldnt be wise
to ask you who did it

but I know who and why

I tell you to wait
right where you are
you say, "please don't go"
I say, "get the phone"

I get in my car
I drive down the block
I kick in the door
and I'm ready to rock
then I see him slouched
passed out on the couch
and I do what I must
this is only out of love
The most remarkable thing about you standing in the doorway, is that its you, and that you're standing in the doorway.

I write down good reasons to freeze to death in my spiral ring notebook. But in the long tresses of your hair--I am a babbling brook.

  • I got a very vivid image of this situation--good stuff there, Kwyjibo! :)
