"Beauty is essentially meaningless and it is always transitory."

.Well Said.

"Let me tell you something being thought of as a beautiful woman has spared me nothing in life," she said. "No heartache, no trouble. Love has been difficult. Beauty is essentially meaningless and it is always transitory."

At a news conference Monday the 35-year-old Berry criticized the obsession with beauty and youth that she said prompted some to get plastic surgery.

"Personally, I'm really saddened by the way women mutilate their faces today in search of that," said Berry, " "There is this plastic, copycat look evolving and that's frightening to me. ... It's really insane and I feel sad that's what society is doing to women."

Anyone who has taken even a brief look at Marie Osmond and Joan Rivers lately can agree with that......

Yeah, Joan Rivers is scary looking.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.
  • It's impossible to define words such as beauty and time. How do you set a finite limit on what words can mean?

What the heck does that have to do with this thread?
I tried to be a better me
In the end I looked like the rest of them.
  • The vaguest acquaintance with the philosophy of language - some old textbook Derrida, perhaps - would suggest to you, even in its pretentiousness, that there's really no such thing as "thread specific." Especially not on a poetry forum, where people are deconstructing language all the time and making creative shapes with it, whatever the topic, and whatever the words used to "designate" the topic. Concepts such as "thread specific" and "beauty" are inherently devoid of stable meaning, like their unstable beholders, their meanings being transitory and incorrigibly plural.

    Conclusion of the foregoing.

though i fully agree with you, you also have to admit that sometimes -actually all the time while speaking, writing (about thinking im still not sure)- you have to accept using words we use for undefinable things and even if every communication is abstract this way (except poetry, (koans?)) for the reasons youve listed) you still dont give up speaking, using words (but, especially if writing (poetry, prose) you become way more careful with words and expressions). you could of course place a 'so-called' before every word that indicates living beings, objects, actions, concepts but that would be annoying.
i personally more and more agree with the idea that (speaking of arts again) only those texts mean something that actually dont want to mean anything.
if its everyday talk we are absulutely not careful with words, they are just for expressing certain realizations from certain points of view, certain stages of 'understanding' etc., not the truth.
in order to get through any of your ideas, realizations to someone else you have to make a thousand compromises, as words necessarily narrow down the 'wholeness' of the world, so they just name that one idea, realization etc. referring to that one aspect of the world.
i think thats why coderiot said what he said.
and this is definitely to be considered 'everyday talk'.

an example of this is where I was at my family conference....all was going well.....I'd get to see my baby more if I got a doctor's report saying I wasn't completely off with the fairies......then we wound down.....my ex left.....and the mediator said....'don't worry......he's 6 months now, but you've got 18 years.....' without even batting an eyelid.....I automatically said.....'that's the only thing that keeps me sane....'.....in fact.....that was the wrong thing to say in the circumstances.....seeing as my ex is trying to paint me as loony-toones.....but it just slipped out of my mouth as though it had bypassed my consciousness......I love the way words pop into your head at the right moment.....from your reservoir of possibilities......le mot juste is a concept that really appeals to me.....even though I side with Foucault and the others
....they're asking me to prove why I should be allowed to stay with my baby in Australia, because I'm mentally ill......and they think I should leave......

I agree that plastic surgery is looking pretty scary on some out there, however, it is really easy for someone as beautiful as Halle Berry to say things like this.
    You ask me to enter
But then You make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
    To what You got
When all You've got is hurt
    ----
    Underneath this smile lies everything
All my hopes and anger, pride and shame

“ ahh…. Yaa…. If you trust me at all… if you wanna listen to me at all… which you certainly don’t have to. Speaking from experience I can tell you that things change. You could believe me, you don’t have to. They probably won’t change, unless you make them. The best way to change something around you, something you don’t like, is.. to change yourself. I don’t think you want other people changing you.. I think.. I think.. the only person you want changing you… is yourself. So if you ain’t happy…. If you’re reading magazines about generation x’s and thinking ‘ya im one of them’ well fuck that…. Don’t let anybody tell you who you are. No… No…. No one can tell me who I am. I can tell you who I am but that would be a long story… I can tell you who I am and it wouldn’t fit in a Rolling Stone…. It wouldn’t fit in a video… it wouldn’t… its my life…. Its your life. Youre the only one that knows who you are. I hope you know who you are. If you don’t know who you are, figure it out. Cause you are some body. And Im probably stating the obvious. But I just thought I would do it anyway. So if you fell like you got a piece of duct tape on your mouth, if you feel like you cant speak. Take it off, Speak up. Speak your Mind. Shout it Out. Beauty = the awakening in your soul that reminds you of your mortality

    Time = change

    These are my feable attempts.
