no questoion that Eddie Vedder is a genius. He like Cobain, Trent Reznor, Dylan, Pink Floyd, Prince (believe it or not), Janis Joplin, Morrison (Doors), Otep, and so many others give people like you and me a voice. Most people ignore them and incessantly label them, but there's others that get so moved by their words and music. To everyone who has a voice, keep on writing! Words can save.
"Trying to be a person you're not is a waste of the person you really are."- Kurt D. Cobain (R.I.P February 20, 1967- April 5, 1994, we love u Kurt)
It was a dream, not a nightmare. A beautiful dream I could never imagined in a thousand nods. I saw this girl next to me, she wasn't beautiful until she smiled. And I felt that smile come at me in heat waves following. Soaking through my body and out my finger tips in shafts of color. And I knew somewhere in the world, somewhere, that there was love for me.

absolutely, what a wonderful thing to say. it's so very, very true. i am living proof.
use words to change the world for the better. if we let negativity and hatred take over, we are lost.
sidenote: marilyn manson's appearance in bowling for columbine = succinct and beautiful expression of the way things get fucked up so easily. to me, he is the prime example of someone who combines brains, art, music with a message, with anti-establishment expression. okay, eddie does that too, but i don't think he irritates parents the same way. in fact, his appeal to many moms (maybe dads too) may be quite fortunate.
Not the best ever...but among the very best for sure. And by saying songwriter are we considering only lyrical ability or even music composition ?
