back burner blues

you give me that call
and you whisper my name
you say what you want
i'm going to have to punish you
you push me away
because that's what you do
like a cat bored with a toy
but instinct keeps you looking
on the prowl for diversion
a new word, a different form
something to pique interest
like a hungry child
voracious at the breast
sucking and pulling and sating
the emptiness, the void
never feeling deserving
of the real and natural prompts
that have manifested
to the miraculous surprise
of your half-dead soul
how can i love you
why do i want to love you
why the fuck do i love you
what in the living shit
did i ever do to be made
to love you
why can't i stop loving you
why don't you want
me to stop
it's just in case
you allow yourself
to one day
love me back
the way i want

that's a lie. partly. something real and some lies, which parts do you succumb to?

i prefer to read objectively. something in there that bothers you? i like that. very much.

no one can ever read objectively and if they say they do then they are lying
and i lie all the time in poetry
but its more of a way to get me somewhere that i think i want to go
and in the end i get somewhere else
that i should have been or that i was heading to anyways

everyone brings something to the poem before they read it
if they didn't they wouldn't be a real person
    a robot maybe
but i guess even robots probably have feelings
    they are metal
    and do have strong arms

its all in how many points of view you can see in a poem
    or a story or anything
if you see one then whatever,
if you see two then whatever,
if you see infinite then whatever

semantic drivel. let's cut to the chase. that robot metaphor was stupid. it's not all in how many points of view, that's just your own well-trained brain (with possible drug-altered synapses and neurons) planning ways to decipher it. honestly, poets would all be insane if they consciously sat and thought out every aspect. that usually happens quite by serendipitous blessings. (or curses)

BUT writers are self-deprecating egomaniacs, so get over yourself.

    damn, i'm happy today.
