don't worry

i saw you there
amongst the crowd
striding past me
always keeping your back
turned my way
so that eyes
cannot reveal

i saw you there
as i sipped and sat
in the alley
with the girl singing
your camera case
your black sweater
and straight ahead look

i saw you there
read my horoscope
watched your familiar gait
as you continued on
not knowing
if i noticed
my true love
(with funny teeth)

i saw you there
and i went home glad
but i waited
to tell you i did
until i read words
that felt pain
of unrecognition

i saw you there
don't worry i didn't
on that brilliant day
with placards
and a feeling of hope
so i reinvent
for you only

i saw you there
and also there
will you always be
making yourself
available to me
until the time
we finally speak
and talk about things
i will tell you my truth
in an intricate
and delectable way
no one else
can feed you
in quite the same
amazing and dear sense
they all want
something quite apart
from what they think
and we can both laugh
at the absurdity
of the illusion
while we are inside
this knowledge
as long as you wish
as long as i wish
to me
that is trust

now you smile
