The Apostle

The apostle who forgets
can never truly go back.
Hard turns and then
dizzying circles.
He knows nothing,
but feels a decision made.

The apostle who scans the road
misses his brothers one by one.
Walks in and out of doors
in the same long instant.

The apostle who drinks for a hard heart
forgets yesterday and screams down tomorrow.
Yet, the sun cannot stay far away
and the clock can never be overcome.

The apostle who feels the night’s weight
has glazed eyes throughout the day.
Idle time yields to hasty conclusions,
one thought brings the weight of a thousand.

The apostle who never forgets
can never truly go back.

But he can be reminded.

For a while he could not remember his own name,
his Master waited, cringed, waited –
and waited.

And Stretched out to catch him as he fell.

Because I know how much time that wastes

    Function is the key
