So i was thinking that it would be cool if pearl jams new cd was as heavy and had richly textured rhythm sequences like soundgardens badmotorfinger; it doesn't hurt that they now have the same drummer. What do you guys think and what band or album would you like pj's next one to be like while still being totally pearl jam.

That would be utterly amazing, but not really their cup o tea. I think it was Stone who once said they got all their heaviness out with Vs.

I think Soundgarden as a band were far more influenced by heavier bands than Pearl Jam. Interestingly you could never really classify them as a metal band, but they certainly had a large audience of metal fans.

But yeah I'd like to hear some really crushing riffs from Pearl Jam...but I can't say I'd want the new record to be like one from any other band. I'd probably prefer the vibe of No Code or Yield though, while still being fresh and unique, as all their other albums are.
I am lost, I'm no guide. But I'm by your side...

    pfft

badmotorfinger is pretty untouchable. But a big riff rocky album would be intriguing
