Eventuality

Here we go again:
There are always eventualities
And so many things to consider
About everything
And thinking and thinking
Until every course of action
And road not taken
Has been brutally trodden
And walked over a thousand times,
And always back at the beginning
I end up,
On the bed beside her
Halfnaked
With just my chest hair and nipples
Above the blanket,
The haze from my last cigarette
Still hanging in the air
And the television now showing
The morning news programs;
And every time I will
Go back to uneasy sleep
Without waking her
To talk to her about it
Or even putting it down in a letter.
Always, always the same eventuality,
An extra two hours of sleep
Were gained by me
So I could spend an eternity
Having the conversation with her
In my mind.

I still lay places halfnaked,
But usually alone,
Wearing only my eventualities.

Hello! I like how the person's actions/thoughts keep circling, like the person is on a ride he can't get off.

    i had the same thought,
    i liked this.
    You ask me to enter
But then You make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
    To what You got
When all You've got is hurt

    Underneath this smile lies everything
All my hopes and anger, pride and shame
  • Thanks so much for the kind remarks, everyone!
