Smoke Halo

There's a sputter in your engine
There's a vagueness in your eyes
It tips me off to the intentions
That your tongue just can't disguise
I know you lie

Every now and then it seems
This subject rears its ugly head
You say you're living out your dreams
But you're only shaking in that bed
Those dreams are dead

And I don't need to hear it to know
I can tell you've burned out from your smoke halo

Quick to tell me not to worry
And quick to tell me nothing's wrong
Before I can wonder "what's the hurry?"
You take a bow and move along
And you're gone, gone, gone

Sure, we've had our peaks and valleys
Triumphs, tragedies and trials
But now you're hiding in dark alleys
So much for going out in style
You've been defiled

And I don't need to see you to know
I can smell the stench of your smoke halo
And I don't mean to sound so cold
But you'll have to snuff yourself out before I let you go.
