one form of emotional oppression of women is the cheap and automatic labeling of passionate emotions as obsession, as if it were something neurotic and wrong.

if artisit like Aretha Franklin sings about love from the bottom of her gut, we call that genius. if an ordinary woman talks about love from the bottom of her heart/gut our culture calls it....

co-dependent, obsessed or overwrought.
