i never thought i would take advice from anyone who wasnt a Christian....but i thought what i read in interviews from a couple of people was really interesting and helped me learn to produce better art...(at least i think so)
i read an interview with Viggo Mortensen, (the guy who played Aragorn in Lord of the Rings) who is a poet, painter, musician, photographer..etc..anyway, he said he never creates anything hoping someone else will like it. it made me mad at first, cuz i, honestly, do that a lot. (dishonest and people pleasing)...
then i read an interview with Jewel, and she said that some guy told her to be honest, and it was hard for her to be sincere....but she began to be really sincere...
this is what i have learned, to really be honest about how i feel, and not worry what anyone else thinks. its a release...and it also helps me be who i really am too. i am really enjoying my day today, painting a picture and trying to tab out this really beautiful song by a band named Extol. they are a Christian death metal band, but this particular song is acoustic and it is really beautiful. "Aperture" is its name....very touching....

If what you create is dishonest and looking to please others, then work in PR or political campaigning. There is no art or poetry there. It's sodapop. It's reality television. It's poetry.com.
Poetry is yours. It's your take on the existence surrounding you. It's a representation of the world as can only be seen through your eyes, felt through your heart, and parsed by your mind. It can hurt, or it can heal. Bring smiles and tears.
Welcome, my friend, to poetry.
