slave of guilt

my soul sighs,
and i see you sighing with me

your dreams
everything you ever wanted to be
and what you wanted to be
was ridiculed

now that you have found it
it was nothing you thought it was
and you feel all alone
wasted and empty

trying so hard
then one day, you gotta say

im exhausted.

giving your all
up against the tide
so tired,

my soul cries,
because my eyes are dry
they told me i was a crybaby
when my daddy died

is it alright to cry
is it alright to say
im tired

just gotta stop...
gotta get out of this wasteland

watching the world, how can you have hope?
what happened to you?
how can you be smiling

im so tired.

i just woke up
and here you come
greeting me with a staunch hello
"good morning! how are you?"

get out of my face
dont wanna see you.

could i have what you have
cuz its obviously not you--

all the plants i put in the soil
bloom for a day and die quickly

and it never feels ok to be happy

Your poems are the flowers that don't die. Water them with your tears, we'll give them the sun of appreciation, and we'll prove them evergreen. Some people might call what I just said corny, but never mind them. You, write for us, and don't stop!

I once stood a foot or two from Ed in a crowd back in June 1992, during a performance of "Porch", and he had the microphone with him but I heard him with his own breath. He sang, "If you've got something to say, say it." So, take the man's advice!

yeah, that was the first item of poetry i have ever read on here. perhaps a bit intrigued by the title. I wish i was a better writer.
