I am thinking the sticky for each winner might be a bit overkill. I normally would be in total agreeance with you but it is my understanding that once all albums are cycled through there will be a "best of the best" survivor series where obviously all album winners will be re-posted before the voting could take place.

Either way, thanks for putting those threads together. They are awesome and it's fun to see what songs everyone likes and dislikes from each album.

i think the idea is great and the work he puts in is fantastic but i think the format doesn't work... people tend to tactically vote in the middle rounds which pushes out some songs that would do better if they hung on... e.g. betterman in the vitalogy game..
maybe a PR system might work better???

anyway.. keep up the good work unafraid...

I agree. And the Vitalogy game could have been sped up if we didn't have to go through the process of voting off stupid mop, bugs, aye davanita and pry, to. That was 4 days right there....

Hey, thanks everyone! When I first started with the Avocado Survivor thread, I didn't intend to extend the game to all of the albums. But that game was a lot of fun, and seemed to attract a ton of people on the board, so I figured it would be cool to cycle through all the albums. Every final round seems to produce more votes than the previous one, so I'd say it has been a success!

Bhrion...I understand the frustration with the "tactical" voting, but that's the nature of the game. If you've ever seen the television Survivor show, you know it's the same way there. The purpose of this game is not necessarily to find the song from each album that is the best, or that we love the most (if that were the case, I'd just ask people to vote FOR their favorite song in each round, not AGAINST their least favorite). Rather, it is to find the song from each album that can "survive" the longest -- i.e., the song that has enough passionate supporters AND few enough "haters" to last the whole game. I think what we've seen so far has been pretty reflective of that.

Eddie Better...I have considered automatically eliminating the oddities from each album (such as Foxymop, Pry To, etc.), but I want to keep my personal bias out of this game as much as possible. For all I know, you all might really love a song that I would consider a toss-out, so I don't want to put myself in the position of having to decide for the entire group what should be put in the game and what shouldn't. Thus, as the moment, I'm leaving everything in and letting the voters decide to get rid of tracks (or not). It might take longer that way, but it keeps things consistent, and keeps the whole game unbiased. That being said, I might consider doing a double-elimination first round in the future to speed things up -- if anyone has any suggestions on that, let me know!

We're not through even half of the albums yet, so we still have quite a ways to go until we get to the "Ultimate" Survivor round (with all of the winners squaring off against each other). If anyone has any other suggestions on how to improve the game, I am always happy to listen. A few people have suggested providing a link to a specific site that provides a poll, and doing the voting that way each round (that way I don't have to count each vote individually, and people could see the progress of the voting with the click of a button), but I'm a bit hesitant for two reasons: 1) the main reason -- there would be no way to ensure that people weren't voting more than once (even if the site limited voting to one-per-IP, we have already seen people use proxies on here to vote hundreds of times); 2) sometimes those sites are blocked at people's workplaces, and I wouldn't want to restrict anyone from voting who wants to.

Again, if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to shoot them my way.

Also, thanks to everyone who has been voting -- it's the only thing that makes the game fun, after all!

One more thing -- even though everyone is talking about Yield as the "big" round, I bet Ten is going to bring up a lot of conflict. I'm already dreading having to pick between Black, Release, Oceans, and Alive -- yikes!

Understood. And the double-elimination first round is a great idea. Can't wait for the ultimate survivor game to begin. And yeah, thanks. It's something to look forward to everyday. :)

walkunafraid...other than the double elimination first round...don't mess with perfection!

You have provided us with something to look forward to each and every day...that's the coolest aspect of the game.

It has been a lot of fun for us. We've had a great time getting reaquainted with every song.

I agree (x A MILLION). Obviously I love the song, but the whole album is an overwhelmingly beautiful piece of art. I was literally obsessed with it when it came out, and it totally shifted the way I look at music. It's still one of my top 3 albums of all time.

I agree, Ten is going to be so hard. I'm already debating with myself if i should vote of: Oceans, Jeremy or Once first... And the main problem is, those 3 songs are SO FUCKING GREAT! It's kind of a shame to vote them of...

I think Yield isn't that big as everyone says:
Untitled is going to be thrown out real hard the first round...
    After that there are even other songs where there's no discussion neccesarry;
Push Me, Pull Me , MFC and Do The Evolution...

In my point of view of course:D
    Anyways keep it up walkunafraid;)

  • I agree, thanks for all your work.I hope you have an easier system than manually counting each vote & making sure there are no multiple voters.

Maybe after we are done with all the song survivor rounds & the Ultimate Survivor, there could be a round pitting the complete albums against each other.
