Question about MSG 1998

I was listening to it last night and just before they play 'Baba' Eddie goes into a bit of a rant about another band playing the song...

(It's not on http://www.pearljamlive.com so here's the text)

Eddie: "Apparently last night, some inferior band tried to play this song on the TV - some kind of awards show - so we're going to stomp on that by showing how you really play it and recommend that these corporate cock-suckers leave these kind of songs alone. They know who they are."

Does anyone know who he is referring to??
"I get into a state of consciousness that I can't explain. It is about feeling and not thinking. I get positive chills and insight into things that I can't get to any other way. It is Healing of the Soul." - Mike McCready

i believe it was Third Eye Blind. I could be wrong though.

If memory serves, he's referring to Stephen Jenkins of Third-Eye Blind. I think they covered it.

I could be way, way off though.

I hate it when he is a dick to other bands, however shitty they are.
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

I completely agree. The funny thing is they probably will end up doing some festival in Europe with these bands.

Considering they just did the VH1 Honors, stone throwing is not necessary. Although this was 1998.

i think it was just a general statement he made. i can't remember calling any specific band out.

    Exactly.

    And love your signature.

Nothing like a good Christmas Vacation reference.

I just watched this show a few nights ago- great show! I was wondering the same thing about what band Ed was talking about. And Third Eye Blind does suck. I saw them years ago- don't ask why, but they played their one hit about half-way through the show and then about half the crows left. For the rest of the show, the singer was pissed and he spent the rest of the show sitting down on the drum platform singing- it was awful.

He didnt say third eye blind by name, but he was definitely referring to them. They were very popular at the time and I remember seeing them cover Baba on tv and it was god awful. I dont think it was an awards show, i just think it was a concert performance they did for mtv or vh1. And trust me, if you saw their version of Baba, you'd know why eddie bashed them.
