  • Thought of another great favorite of mine...due to sad circumstances. I hate to plague this great thread with a bummer, but it has been much on my mind today. My baby Siamese of 6 years was diagnosed with leukemia today. I am faced with some hard choices.
    Anyway, to share miss Emily...

    After Great Pain

    ---Emily Dickinson

After great pain, a formal feeling comes---
The Nerves sit ceremonious, like Tombs---
The stiff Heart questions was it He, that bore,
    And Yesterday, or Centuries before?

    The Feet, mechanical, go round---
Of Ground, or Air, or Ought---
    A Wooden way
    Regardless grown,
A Quartz contentment, like a stone---

This is the Hour of Lead---
    Remembered, if outlived
As Freezing persons, recollect the Snow---
    First---Chill---then Stupor---then the letting go---
  • And another favorite....

    ee cummings

    since feeling is first
    who pays any attention
    to the syntax of things
    will never wholly kiss you;

    wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world
    my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
    than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don't cry
---the best gesture of my brain is less than
    your eyelids' flutter which says

we are for each other: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
    for life's not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis
  • Depression
    -Jen Hazlett

Dramatically spilling my thoughts all over you.
Staining the clouds of hope & delight.
My eye's darken with every sickening second.
As the very sky become a depressing sight.
And the sourness feeds on my insides.
A deathly bitterness, consuming my pride.
    Alone, comforted in depression's nostalgia.
Disgust never grows old & depression never dies.

I really like that. After reading this thread, I'm going to get some books with Cummings poetry.
  • Jeffrey McDaniel- The Jerk

    Hey you, dragging the halo-
how about a holiday in the islands of grief?

Tongue is the word I wish to have with you.
Your eyes are so blue they leak.

Your legs are longer than a prisoner's
    las night on death row.

    You're a dirty little windshield

I'm standing behind you on the subway,
    hard as calculus. My breath
sticks to your neck like graffiti.

I'm sitting opposite you in the bar, waiting
for you to uncross your boundaries.

I want to rip off your logic
and make passionate sense to you.

I want to ride in the swing of your hips.

My fingers will dig into you like quotation marks,
blazing your limbs into parts of speech.

But with me for a lover, you won't need
catastrophes. What attracted me in the first place
will ultimately make me resent you.

I'll start telling you lies, and my lies will sparkle,
become the bad stars you chart your life by.

I'll stare at other women so blatantly
    you'll hear my eyes peeling,

because sex with you is like Great Britain:
cold, groggy, and a little uptight.

Your bed is a big, soft calculator
    where my problems multiply.

    Your brain is a garage
I park my bullshit in, for free.

You're not really my new girlfriend,
just another flop sequel of the first one,
who was based on the true story of my mother.

You're so ugly I forgot how to spell!

I'll cheat on you like a ninth grade math test.
Break your heart just for the sound it makes.

You're the this we need to put an end to.

The more you apologize, the less I forgive you.

    So how about it?
    I waited all day.
    You waited all day..
    but you left before sunset..
and I just wanted to tell you
    the moment was beautiful.
Just wanted to dance to bad music
    drive bad cars..
    watch bad tv..
should have stayed for the sunset...
    if not for me.

No, but I have called my house and left a poem as a message on the answering machine just so that when I get home I feel special because someone left a message for me, even if that someone is me. :)

That reminds me of the time I had my imaginary friend assassinated.

One of my favorites I have at home in my journal. If I remember later I shall post it. I haven't read it in four years.
i have to remain at top sassiness, even though my inner sass is struggling
