Expanse of green
Watery drops clinging in a last ditch effort of winter
Not quite holding on
Sun breaking through bringing the smell
Of something new
Childrens cries of delight recede
As I make my way along a worn path
Of routine
Finger points ahead
A warning but unaware
Lone figure and her fainthful companion
Stare at the mound on the green
So strange how silently violence
Shatters the inside silver lining
Draw closer and the mound becomes
My father, your brother, his son
Alone and so alarmingly still
Figures in blue move about slowly
There's no rush for this mound
His skin lies upon the earth
Those watery drops clinging in vain
Was he there all night in the dark?
Turning away to feet moving quietly
Forward, how many pairs?
Surrounding and looking down
And seeing him alone.

I really like the whole thing but what I qouted above really hit me--great lines.
