This is somewhat foretelling the future...
I've known you for five years now,
But it feels like all my life.
When I think about it, I think wow,
In a couple days now, I'll have to say goodbye.
No more good nights, or sweet dreams,
Or watching high school teams.
A stiff mattress, a roommate,
Instead of my soulmate.
So we've grown up and moved on,
And you're home and I'm gone.
We stay up at late night,
And whisper to the starlight.
I look through the yearbooks,
And all of our weird looks.
With our goals and ambitions,
And our letters of admission.
I pick up my cap and I set it back down,
I look at my shoes and I pick up my gown.
I have a speech in four hours with nothing to say,
I just can't believe this will be the last day.
The hugs that we cherished,
The dreams of the marriage,
Kisses in the back room,
Crying in the bathroom.
My name is called,
I hear the applause,
Make my way to the podium,
Just hoping I don't trip.
The words are smeared by my sweat stains,
And fittingly it starts to rain.
Clear my throat and start to speak,
And suddenly I feel so meek.
I see my class in front of me,
I see my friends, my enemies,
The ones I know that are happy,
And the ones I know are sad.
My fellow classmates, this is your chance,
Your chance to look forward, don't look back,
This is your life, not your last dance,
The future is ahead, so don't look back.
This our time to make a stand,
To give our neighbor a helping hand.
But right now, I'd say lend a shoulder,
Or if you have a girl, get up and hold her.
For all those around you know you'll miss,
Get up now and give a kiss.
Don't be afraid if you're gonna cry,
Because this is the time to say goodbye.
Goodbye to him, goodbye to her, goodbye to you,
Goodbye to mom, goodbye to dad, to everyone I knew,
Goodbye to my town, goodbye to my home,
Goodbye to you all, and thank you too.
As you walk out of here today,
Walk through those doors and don't look back.
Don't be afraid of what you say,
Because pretty soon, you'll have to pack.
Whatever you do, just don't be afraid.
This is the last time you may see someone,
For all the friendships that have been made,
Walk up to them and give them a big one.
Good luck in the future, make us proud,
Remember even a small group can be loud.
Do your best in all you try,
So you can be bright as you shine.
I finish up my speech, and return to my seat.
I see their smiles, their tears in lashes,
I give my hugs and my kisses,
I know who everyone I'll miss is.
Time for me to say goodbye,
Goodbye to those who I love,
Even though I know I'll cry,
I still have to force myself to say goodbye.
Very, very long. I hope you enjoy.
