a simple hug wouldn't be
too much to ask
T-tops and domestic beer
sounds like bliss
Am I invisible?
Hey goddamnit, I'm a person too
I live, I breathe, walk, talk, eat and shit
No, I don't want the Tommy Shaw pick
you caught during "Come Sail Away"
I want to lay beside you
and watch Conan and talk about nonsense
Go to the movies on a Thursday afternoon
order chinese and play scrabble
I want to see you without makeup
I make the best western omelet
you've never ate
just let me call you tomorrow
no more class reunions
no more bad rock shows
forget about him
and his ikea lifestyle
just think about it
here's the leash and the chew toy
funny how it keeps us both occupied
diverting our attention, our sorrow
from your empty absence
here's to another sleepless night

overall i think this is my favorite "instant poetry" so far. i really enjoyed the whole part that talks about laying beside one another and the nonsense, conan and scrabble - but these lines right there went straight through me.

I like how the poem almost comes full circle from watching the dog to watching the dog. I think that would be a nice close. All this wonderful, important stuff, sandwiched between the watching the puppy references.
