The lady downstairs

The lady downstairs feeds bread to the stray cats
that frequent our building.

She has shredded the slices into smaller pieces
and scattered them in the parking lot.

They lie strewn about like shards
of shattered china.

The lady downstairs is asking me what I'm studying
at school. I tell her, "English."

She asks, "What's that?
Is that a language different than ours?"

I know she is serious and reply, "No, it's the same one."
She rubs her neck and looks at the ground.

Her hair is clinging to her head like wet grass,
and I am thinking of dinner.

Very non chalant.Like a conversation I once had with this guy I used to date.He would just non chalantly answer the questions.....

I know...we all have those.I try to get by on my sense of humor,
but only few understand,you know that Poet!:)

I think alot of people do thigns just for attention....I used to in my childhood

or they do it due to misunderstanding

or theyre just flippin crazy!!!!!!!!

Funnily enough, I disagree with the previous post. I think this is my favourite of yours, by far. It's accomplished and rich in nuance.

This is an interesting piece, poet. A simple encounter can send the mind into various paths of thought. I encounter situations like this all the time, that get me thinking.

I particularly like this part:

So symbolic of a deeper observation.

So honest, a poet! It's funny how we start thinking of things we'd rather be doing when encountered by someone and there's really nothing to converse about, or we feel uncomfortable. I loved the observations about this lady and that you ended the poem the way you did.
