the burden of atlas

this compass only goes south
where it's quiet in life
peaceful in death
hyenas gather what's left
from the rape
that brought division
a paradise immersed in flames

barren of flesh
wealthy in human ivory
a migration of the past into the flame
fueling the intoxication of a machine
buliding the future
by erasing the past
a home with scenery better seen than explain
increasing the burden for atlas
who can't tell sweat from tears
my home
at the end of the earth
