When I was young I used
to float down the hallway from my bedroom
inches at a time
careful to not try to hard
for fear of falling to the floor
and being heard/hurt
my secret would be out
and I would have to explain myself
My arms were outstretched
like a ghost
My feet pointing to the ground
I lacked the delicate balance of a hummingbird
Surely this would come
in time,
with age.
Though now I drive cars
I barely walk
My feet have shaped to push
while I sit in chairs.

You're good, Pyramid! I really enjoy reading your stuff.
I have my license but I don't feel I'm a very good driver and you know, it's very rare that I feel put off about walking or taking the bus. I actually love walking and, well, depending on the other patrons and how packed it can get, I don't mind riding the bus either. I find people get SO lazy when they have wheels. They drive to the corner store to buy milk when they could easily take fifteen, twenty minutes out of their day to walk there and even get a little excercise in the process...it amazes me! I also shake my head when I go past the neighbour's driveways and there aren't just 2 cars, there's like 4! Who the hell really, really needs that many vehicles?
Ah, to float as we did when young and our asses weren't pressed into car seats or desk chairs.....Forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in. - Leonard Cohen0 -
That's some imagery you have there. Floating is like freedom in a personal world of cemented air, you know. I didn't get the driving part from the first part, but the first part when the protagonist was young was incredible. There is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous
The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math - The Mincing Mockingbird0 -
great piece, but the title made me think of a dead body in a river. I reallllllly liked this though. The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!
And I won't make the same mistakes
(Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
(And function)
Function is the key0
