What moves us to solitude?

Like small coloured bubbles
We pause in middair,
Hovering in our flight,
Holding still for
A moment that seems
Both short-lived and eternal,
The time elapsed between breaths
The brief seconds between
A smile and a laugh...
The needle of fate
pricks us unmercifully,
It splinters us
In an outburst of watery soap --
And such is the substance of life
Porous and fragile,
Brilliant and beautiful --
It floats, dies and is reborn
In every child who loves
The simple things
In every adult
Who lives and dies
By the sun and stars,
In that immortal routine
Of joy and strife
That carries us through life...
And I stop and float
For a while,
Light and free
I let myself be carried
To the place where I must be,
Dying and rising,
Always dying and rising...

Buru.
