Great Lakes ?

ONCE,
Land-locked
Lovelies.

NOW,
Nowhere to swim,
Nowhere to dive. :(

Receding.
Bleeding,
Blood we can't see.
You're choking!
Not joking,
About how we just take,
And it's our mistakes,
That polluted these Great Lakes,
For goodness sakes!
For goodness sakes!

Sometimes I'm ashamed to be a part of the human race! :( I live by a Great Lake and it is polluted. That makes me very sad. So, what our parents and grandparents and their grandparents destroyed, we can only try to revive. And we must try to preserve what's left! So, please don't litter and try to reduce, reuse and recycle! :) We only have one planet and it gives us so much, let's try to think twice about how we treat it in return! Thanks! :)

    lol :D...HOMES...

    Huron
    Ontario
    Michigan
    Erie
    Superior

yeah, I'm a good Michigan boy. I've grown up here with the Lakes, and although I've never been a water person, I feel terrible that the largest source of fresh water in the world is so polluted. I can vote for all the clean water acts in the world, but somehow it doesn't seem like it mean too much.

Hey girlie! That was awesome! I absolutely love your idea, I totally agree. Makes people think twice when reading the advice in a poem. You captured it so beautifully. Thank you for getting peoples attention!

So right you are B.E. Where as I don't live by the Great Lakes....I am a HUGE finatic about the ocean and its wildlife. The problem is with these huge industrial factories that are pumping all this "crap" into the atmosphere, and its not so much the factories today, but the ones from 100 years ago where they didn't have to monitor their emissions. A whole lot of limestone would fix the problem.

  • Thanks to all! :)

    Smell a flower
    Hug a tree
    Love a lake

I think as long as we all try to make an effort to cut down on litter and pollution that it will help! And it's really not hard to put that candy wrapper in your pocket until you get home and can throw it out. It's not hard to toss a glass bottle into a blue box instead of chucking it in the trash, you know? The little things do amount to big things if we all pitch in. :)

Makes me think of my favorite creatures: frogs. They are so dependent on a healthy and clean environment that if it turns to shit, they disappear.

    Hmmm, if we were frogs...

So I look at the water
From the beach, I can still stand on
    Skipping stones
    And playing explorer
When did they deem this unsafe
Don't fish still have to live in there
    I watch:
    Dogs swim
    Kids wade
    Wind surfers
    Boats sail
    I also see:
    Floating tires
    Dead gulls
    Motor boats
Moss that stinks to high heaven
One day my children might be able....
To once again enjoy fresh land locked water
You've changed your place in this world!
