Laura's Smile
Being Enlightened

Laura's smile
wasn't something
she wore,
it beamed brightly
from her
beautiful,
big heart.
I see it right now,
glowing at me,
from a picture
we keep on the
refrigerator door.
In this picture,
her arm is around me,
and mine around her,
our new friends
surround us
and we are
all of us
smiling...
All of us
so new
to each other
that weekend,
and yet,
like old friends.
We shared wine,
and Laura,
she liked vodka
(straight up at that!)
We shared bread...
She even slept
in the little
guest room
with the
single bed...
Now, as I
think back,
I think I saw
Laura's smile
once,
just a touch brighter,
after a PJ show
where she was
almost like,
FRONT ROW!
Indeed, it was,
because she finally
got her wish,
a longed for
opener of
Release-
that smile,
it was
BLISS!
The last time
I saw
Laura's smile,
it beamed out
from under her
cute n' poofy
black hat.
Not a hair
on her head,
but she wasn't
even concerned
with that.
I hugged her
SO tight,
I thought she
might break but,
she just
hugged me
right back.
We talked,
and we laughed,
until it was time
to part ways
as the next
PJ show was to begin...
Laura's smile
echos off these walls
that surround me.
I see her
in the living room,
the dining room,
the kitchen...
My arms can
almost feel
her embrace,
as I look
at the picture,
and remember
her stay
at our place.
I close my eyes
and conjure
an image,
of Laura,
and her gentle grace.
I never will forget,
my lovely friend,
and her beautiful
smiling face.
Rest in peace, my friend!

such kind words!
If I wasn't at work, I wouldn't fight the tears so much.
Funny how the wishes of Release from the weekend came to a head at that show. She was on cloud nine when we ran into her at the bar and still on it when we got back to our place.
There's that beautiful smile!
Reading this it's like I don't need to. She's still here in all of you who knew and loved her.
Beautiful....

If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would
Let it go
Surrender
Dislocate
If I could throw this
Lifeless lifeline to the wind
Leave this heart of clay
See you walk, walk away
Into the night
And through the rain
Into the half-light
And through the flame
If I could through myself
Set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light
And to the day
Oooh oooh, oooh oooh, oooh oooh oooh...
To let it go! And so to fade away
To let it go!
And so fade away
I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping, oh no, no, no
If you should ask then maybe they'd
Tell you what I would say
True colors fly in blue and black
Bruised silken sky and burning flack
Colors crash, collide in blood shot eyes
Oooh oooh, oooh oooh, oooh oooh oooh...
If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would
Let it go
This desparation
Dislocation
Separation
Condemnation
Revelation
In temptation
Isolation
Desolation
Let it go
And so fade away
To let it go, oh yeah
And so fade away
To let it go, oh No
And so to fade away
I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping oh no no
Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.
-Oscar Wilde
And I won't make the same mistakes

Because I know how much time that wastes

I didn't know Laura, but I recognise beautiful poetry, and I recognise 'Bad'. Thankyou for sharing these feelings.

Don't she...
Funny, I was just thinking about her the other day, which made me think to come have a peek at this place. It might not be the best of poetry, but it was the best I could do at that moment, and re-reading it and some of the responses has made me well up. Thank you. Good to keep the good people in our hearts and thoughts--ALWAYS!
