something or other during the day

looking out your window
you see a plane screeching to a hault
and you wonder
"what in the world is that about" and
your dreams become the fantasies
you can't ever reach and the love of your life
is something you only write
about in trite, greeting card-like poetry,
so you get stoned and drunk
all the time and the
bad-world-gone-down-the-tubes
feelings you have rush out
your window past the stacks of
dusty books that you thought
might inspire you to do something
with your life; but didn't,
and past Jules Verne sitting in your window sill
weaving his sweaters out of
spider webs like in his books,
and past the grey hairs that now grow
out of the side of your head, and past the
plane you were staring at that
you thought was crashing, but it
was only landing in the nearest dairy farmfield
for a refuel, because you live nowhere
close to where you want to live, and
you are not anything close to want you thought you'd be,
and you realize that you should go
drink some tea or get stoned or
smoke a cigarette so that
everything is Okay and back to normal
sooner rather then later.
