Open Letter to Eddie Vedder re: Milwaukee

My Morning Jacket played in Milwaukee last Friday night at the same theater that Eddie Vedder performed at recently...The Riverside Theater.
The crowd was very cool, calm and collected...there weren't any "Pirates Of Silence" in attendance that evening.
I just returned from another concert in Milwaukee this evening.
The show was at a smaller theater called "The Pabst Theater".
The theater is named after a famous beer that is, or once was, brewed in Milwaukee. Pabst certainly isn't "Old Milwaukee" and I'm not sure if the buzz is the same but maybe Ed has enjoyed a few of them back in the day.
The band that played here this evening is called "Fleet Foxes" and they're an indie band from Seattle. Once again the crowd this evening was very quiet and respectful. You could hear a pin drop between songs.
When I attended the Eddie Vedder solo show in Milwaukee at "The Riverside Theater" last August I heard a few loud assholes yelling things like "Go Cubs!" and then others in retaliation yelling "White Sox!". Believe me, people from Milwaukee don't yell shit like that during intimate concerts. Now I'm not saying that folks from Milwaukee aren't loud, obnoxious, assholes but I feel that this town got a bum rap after Ed's show.
Now I'm wondering if it's just Pearl Jam fans that are loud and obnoxious during Ed's solo shows? Or was it the transplants from Illinois and St. Louis that were the trouble makers that evening? I know I'm beating a dead horse here but you all should have been here tonight and last Friday night...you missed two wonderful shows attended by very cool, quiet and respectful people...I'm just sayin'

But yea some of the Chicago FIBs ruined it for Milwaukee. To those people I say, FUCK YOU FIBS.
I'm just saying you can't really compare the crowd of an Eddie show with a MMJ show because the atmosphere is so different.
I just discovered Fleet Foxes myself! They are awesome, when they first came on if I had not known better I would have thought it was Jim James tho!! which is good,
Why don't you just say it's me your telling this too? lol
Of course some were Milwaukee people yelling shit at the Milwaukee show. BUT, yes some were Chicago people. I'm telling you what I saw with my own eyes during and after the show. Ok so fuck the FIBs and Milwaukee people that yelled shit at the show. Does that make you feel better? hehe
Nite 2 some were Chicago fans cause I was next to a bunch that got kicked out. How do I know they were Chicago people cause they had Cubs and White Sox stuff on. Trust me they were from Chicago. lol But yea some could have been from Milwaukee too.

It said "Life is nothing but a dream."
I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.
The folks who said that people were disruptive in both places are absolutely correct. Even during Chicago 1, which Ed mentioned several times was one of the better crowds of the tour, people were yelling out stupid, inappropriate stuff. And the crowd at that show was hands down the best of the 3 that I went to. So, the notion of Chicagoans or Milwaukeeans being specifically responsible for the disruptions doesn't seem to have a lot of validity.
I'm not sure that I'd agree with the idea that Ed was pissed right at the beginning of the Milwaukee show. It seemed to me like he became more irritated as the night went on, as some of the ass-hats were proving to be relentless.
Another thing that I'd like to mention is that the majority of the crowd at the Milwaukee show seemed like they were there to have a good time. It was only a combination of 10 or so drunks, loud-mouths, and attention-seekers who created the problems. The people that I was sitting around seemed pretty well behaved, but we kept hearing the same voices from the same parts of the theater for the duration of the concert. It was very unfortunate and unnecessary.
Lastly, I once wondered what I would say to Ed if I ever got the chance to meet him. I finally figured it out; I would express my embarassment over the situation in Milwaukee. I think that a really great show was tarnished by a few ass-hats, or people who just had a little too much to drink.
OK, thanks for clarifying. I just have read a bunch of people blaming Chicago folk for ruining the Milwaukee show, and it sets me a bit on edge.
BTW...just because someone is a fan of the Cubs or White Sox doesn't necessarily mean they're from Illinois/Chicago. I know people who live in Wisconsin that are Cubs fans, and Chicago people who love the Packers. You don't have to be from the same city to root for a certain team. So yeah, they could have been from Chicago, but they may have been from somewhere else.
In any case, I think we can agree that whoever was yelling out stupid crap at these shows needs to be shot out of a cannon. I personally wanted to strangle the guy behind me at Chicago 2 who yelled "Dock at the Bay" over and over again every 5 minutes.
Maybe because their experience of the show was ruined by some idiot screaming in their ear, or by the performance constantly being interrupted.
Requirements or no, I'd like to think that common courtesy and respect still apply, without provisions having to be made for people to be kind. Some of the people at that show were disrespectful to Ed, other members of the audience, and the Riverside staff.
I wonder what a bootleg of this show would sound like with all the interruptions, yelling, and general silliness. Like I said, it was unnecessary.
Why don't you get over people being pissed at the hecklers?

Nah. As long as people keep crying about it then I will probably keep commenting on it.
It's a Wisconsinite term. It stands for "fucking Illinois bastards".
It's a midwest term. lol
I've only ever heard people say it in Wisconsin, but I could be wrong.
Not to contradict, but I was at the NJ show and everyone was extremely well behaved. I was also at DC 1 and there was plenty of yelling. I did find both shows enjoyable on different levels; it's unfortunate that so many had thier experiences spoiled by circumstances beyond thier control.
