Mother

Mother, this life I cannot endure
though the body's capable of more
This is not what I came here for
So spread out the tablecloth
and cook me a meal of love
before we're all at war
Before children are once again dying for nothing more
than an extra greenback of air
an ounce of it they'll never share
So cook me a meal I'll look forward to
with all my energy and a record playing
We'll sit like we did once before
As the bombs fall in our souls
We'll talk of days gone by
Where once lived an ounce of humanity
Where naivety once gave hope for something knew
But all they wanted was the present gold
They left us nothing but a land plagued with sickness
Why'd they do this to us, mother?
We were their children and grandchildren
Some say you love your grandchildren more than your own children
So why no respect for the source of life?
How do we begin to understand our uncivilised ancestors?
The technological revolution of the computer
The ease of life brought on the waste of their minds
They gave jobs to the computers and they went on vacation for the rest of their lives
And so the hate-fixing by each foreign land we now try to unite
is like scrubbing at linen burnt with dark streaks of crude oil
But we unite anyhow, it's hard but we're doing it
Breaking the borders, the filth of patriotism flees as the walls they built fall
At least our children and grandchildren will be bred with love
But Mother I still feel the weight of the waste of life
In their apathy they pushed future worries away as conspiracies
No wonder they could never sustain their lives
Ah well
Here we are
We just have to do it better
Learn from the past and just make peace with each other
I do see something on the horizon though, mother
It's exciting, so beautiful
Do you think we'll ever get to see it, mother?

Mother...remember when you sang the songs of youth
and everything to you was burning truth
the candle in the window burning bright
and your strong love was my stout birthright
you took the dreams of simple-minded men
and swore upon the river and the fen
to bring back peace....Oh, Mother, Mother mine
we'll sing and we'll remember just in time
the world is dying...Mother, Mother mine
the world is dying...save it just in time
and all the children all the nascent souls
who starve and stave off death like flailing ghouls
oh Mother, Mother....take them on your knee
oh Mother, Mother....when will we be free?

sorry.....I loved your poem so much....I just wrote a quick one in response.....:)
....they're asking me to prove why I should be allowed to stay with my baby in Australia, because I'm mentally ill......and they think I should leave......

it sums up the desperation of people who have greedily squandered the earth......and now look to the past....and ask....and question the futility of their material world.....and the haunting chorus of those paying for the greed of our kind....the ones with their faces in the dirt......it's like the ultimate hangover
....they're asking me to prove why I should be allowed to stay with my baby in Australia, because I'm mentally ill......and they think I should leave......

You once said you loved God more than
me so what do you have to worry about?
