she once was the princess,
her daddy's priceless pearl,
until she smiled at school,
bitter peers shut her down,
to tears she fell,
so sad was she...
chose the ones who brought her down
to a place fools take for granted
where love is soiled and then lost
before it is ever found...
walked a road not known to a princess,
dust
rocks
weeds
dead dog in the ditch
chose crystal ships
tied down her vessels
red orchids
loaded again
days gone by
sobered by the passing of time
she was seen at the market
by an old friend
who approached her
greeted with a smile
a smile so beautiful
this time lifted her
she is no longer a princess
she walks a road that is less than perfect
but she smiled and somone smiled back
her daddy's priceless pearl,
until she smiled at school,
bitter peers shut her down,
to tears she fell,
so sad was she...

Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

sweet as usual olderman
very touching
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green
So you grab a piece of something that you think is gonna last
Well you wouldn't even know a diamond if you held it in your hand
The things you think are precious, I can't understand.
Are you reeling in the years
Stowing away the time?
Are you gathering up the tears
Have you had enough of mine?
Are you reeling in the years
Stowing away the time?
Are you gathering up the tears
Have you had enough of mine?
You been telling me you were a genius since you were seventeen
In all the time I've known you I still don't know what you mean
The weekend at the college didn't turn out like you planned
The things that pass for knowledge I can't understand.
Are you reeling in the years
Stowing away the time?
Are you gathering up the tears
Have you had enough of mine?
Are you reeling in the years
Stowing away the time?
Are you gathering up the tears
Have you had enough of mine?
I've spent a lot of money, I've spent a lot of time
The trip we made to Hollywood is etched upon my mind
After all the things we've done and seen you find another man
The things you think are useless I can't understand.
Are you reeling in the years
Stowing away the time?
Are you gathering up the tears
Have you had enough of mine?
Are you reeling in the years
Stowing away the time?
Are you gathering up the tears
Have you had enough of mine?
