Awake the lights pierce
Where my eyes used to be
Life was so normal
No fast cars, or fast women
Paid my taxes and my dues

Lived through life and all its decadence
If you are going to be a sick man
Why go halfway?
Look at that poor man
Prayed five times a day
No penance here our prison sentence the same

The grass is always greener on the other side
Where the dogs have been
My path was rocky started to grow
But cut from a different vine
My seed scattered everywhere
Lazarus please just a drop
Abraham am I not your seed?

Oh Lord please don't tell me to depart
Don't you know in our name we came?
Just give them a sign
And yours they shall be?
Acceptance was my drug of choice
Truthfully I was no different
Just a little smarter and better at hiding my disease

So these flames burn away my clothing
Call it hypocrisy
A brood of vipers we are
Rotting corpses and open graves
With all our degrees and open minds
The wind is blowing cold
Have we lost our way tonight?
Have we lost our hope to sorrow?

Feels like were all alone
Running further from what’s right
And there are no more heroes to follow

So what are we becoming?
Where did we go wrong?
