a restless sleep.
i keep thinking of you,
needing to feel you close.

you, of all, could stay-
a strong presence here,
transcending your spirit
like the echo of your voice
down the hallway,
in my life.

i look at your pictures,
to find what i want to remember
and to push away what i need to forget.

one, a wicked brooding grin,
beautiful and mysterious,
a vixen staring through me.

two, a crimson, honest smile,
your hair back in a yellow scarf,
a sunny day at the park,
a warm embrace.

i have those same eyes,
blue, that sometimes hide the pain.
my giver, my troubled friend, who tried to be a guide,
i'm as lost as you in different ways.

i close my eyes to try to sleep.
a brief flash of you,
as the distance grows,
smiling,
and waving goodbye
again.
