Do I really have to?

Do I really have to?
(learn to be like them?)
selfish, thoughtless
(oh God!)
stupid, self-centered, shallow
(even mean)
late, dragged, dead-weight
(struggling-but-silent)
pushed, knocked, kicked again!
I'm
being forced into a room
(that one, there, where)
I've gotta learn how
oh...
why?
that's the only way?
stop
to be like those?
uh
but I don't...
oh
that type?
really?
Noooooooooooooo!!

  • Nice poem. For some reason I picture a pre-teen girl when I read it, but it applies to just about anyone with just as much validity. At least they said no at the end, even if it does sound like a death cry.
"Ah, life is a gate, a way, a path to Paradise anyway, why not live for fun and joy and love or some sort of girl by a fireside, why not go to your desire and LAUGH..."

Wow. I can see how you might read it that way but it was actually about an internal struggle...

About noticing other people and what works for them...thinking about the bad qualities that seem to help them get what they want....not wanting to become like that, but wondering why they are successful with those qualities...

    "she could be another clone..."

    I like your poem :)
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

I got the internal struggle, that part came across strong. I just meant that in each of us, that internal struggle manifests itself in a struggle to avoid becoming the typical, undesirable human. But, the interpretation that you thought I had, I also like, so I'll just take credit for that one too. I'm so versatile.
