Nervous - poster framing

So i just dropped off my '03 East Troy poster at hobby lobby to get framed today. That poster is very important to me and it's been in storage for the last 5 years. I finally said fuck it...it's time to get it done.

I am excited about the layout I picked out....black matte with orange metal frame but I'm nervous as hell and excited at the same time to see what it looks like.

I know how you both feel, but seeing it framed you'll be happy. There are some really good examples in the framed poster thread that you can look at to get ideas, but bottom line, however it is framed, it will look awesome! :)
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."

i took my van 98 in a month ago. I was nervous too. Just tell them how much it means to you and emphasize how rare they are and they take pride in it too, i find.

I'd like to get some input from seasoned vets with a better eye than me.

I have never left any of my posters at the framers, never. I take the print in, usually in mylar, pick out the mats and frame and then take the print home with me. The only place around me is Michael's unfortunately. They just make a note that I will bring the print in when the stuff arrives. They call me and I bring it in and wait 10 or 15 mins while they get it together. The people know how I care for my posters and the girl I that puts it together won't tough my prints without gloves on. I've used them to frame all my rarest prints with no problem at all that way. Do not leave them there and make sure you you emphasize no drymouting. After a couple of prints, they'll get the idea.

Just curious, how much did they charge? I'm looking to get something similar done.

More than I was expecting....and they even have their 1/2 off custom frames deal going on right now. Just over $100. Acid free matte, which is a little more than regular matte. And it's a metal frame. Probably getting screwed but I wanted it done....been putting it off for years now. Can't wait to get it back.

I know the feeling....I am finally going to bite the bullet and take about 50 of mine to the framers in the morning. I was going to do them myself, but I just keep putting it off........Now I just need to decide which ones to take and which ones to hold off.....Too many decisions...

You are right, it IS very expensive when you have these done. I just decided that the longer I put it off, the chance of them actually getting done would get smaller and smaller. Then I would get fed up with the whole thing and either burn them or give them away!!! ;) I found a local framer that told me if I promised to give him all of my biz, that he would cut me a great deal and really just charge me for material. Cant wait to FINALLY get some of these up on the wall!! 75 posters (Ihave 25 or so done already) on ONE GIANT WALL.!!!!

Actually considered it....then decided that the posters needed to get done....Plus, I couldnt get into SC for under like $600 and didnt want to just fly out for 2 shows...So I am opting to sit this one out. I will wait til the shows closer to home...;)

Don't want to make a separate thread for this so I'll post it here.

Can anyone tell me an average price of getting a poster framed. I went to a place yesterday and they said 225 and I said fuck no. But is that the kind of price I should have been expecting?

I think that is out line, I live in Chicago area and found a mom & pop shop who do a great job for around $75 - 90 per poster. But I also don't like to to matte, I just think it can be too much.

Depending on what you are doing....I'd say that is way out of line. Like the other guy said $75 - $100 is probably average....and I'm just going off of what people have said on here. I've only had a few done. This East Troy one I just took in will be the most I've paid. It's all going to depend on the size, matte and frame...but I couldn't justify paying over $130-$150 (or so) to get one framed....just isn't worth it to me. I'll stick a tack in it and hang it on the wall before I spend $250 on a frame job....and that will never happen.

Yea I agree. So how do you go about hanging one without actually doing damage to it? I want to display it, but not if it's going to cause physical damage.

Without framing it? Buy a cheap plexi glass frame at wal mart or target to put it in. Won't be the right size but it will be up for your viewing pleasure without putting holes in the poster.

I guess I decided that I needed to get these posters framed MORE than I needed to see a few shows this time around. I was at a point if I didnt do SOMETHING with them, then I was wasting my time even collecting. Why collect if they were just going to sit in a box. So I decided to put a little investment into my investment so they can be displayed properly in all their glory!! There will be plenty more shows to see! :)
