Obvious, practical, maybe even dull?

  • it's simple... these things require a level of consciousness that is difficult and long in coming... there is so much to learn, and so little of it being taught... there should be classes in school, because it matters so so much. it'd be really hard to collectively design the curriclulum because of all the different ideologies out there, but I think really worthwhile in the end

    :)

going to the store to get milk is a hell of a lot easier than forgiveness

Well, I'm trying to teach my sons to identify what's bothering them when they displace their emotions. I can see it so clearly with them...

It made me start seeing how frequently adults do this kind of thing and I started wondering why it's such a general problem for people!

Let's teach our kids to label their feelings so they can take care of the real thing bothering them!! :)

  • AND you have to learn first, that rage is bad, then that it's good, and then that it's only good sometimes... and it's probably like that with a lot of things. Learn, incorporate, dissociate, integrate...

Check out Ken Wilber's "A Brief History of Everything". It's an amazing dissertation on the evolution of man and consciousness and society. It made my life a lot more clear.

I think it's hard, because they don't appear to have the faculties neccessary for honest introspection. But a good cause, for sure. How old are your kids?

    I have 10 and 15. Two boys.

  • I bet your 15 year old is way better at it than your 10 year old. Mine are 9 & 5, and my 9 year old is still quite reluctant to search her own mind.

Yes. My older boy is learning.

My younger son is at an age where he's really cranky when he's worried and his normally sweet and kind personality becomes almost mean....he picks on his older brother and his mom...

then I know something is bothering him...and I have to dig it out!

  • I've taught my kids some bad habits, to be sure. My daughter FREAKS on her brother with a rage that I can't say I didn't teach her. It's just a stress-reaction. But I had no idea how powerfull it was until I saw someone else doing it. YIPES! My BAD!!!!

So, now I'm undoing all my good works. LOL

    Wow

    Wow

    lol

Some of it is just inherited personality characteristic too. When my husband sees our son's behavior he looks sheepish. :p

  • sure... my Mom taught me, her Mom taught her, and when push comes to shove, I go apeshit, lol... i'm trying to do it less... trying to remember to breathe

    knowing is half the battle
the other half is getting kids to mind

    :D

if kids could learn with our mistakes, this would be a better world than it is don't you think?

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
    While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
    Still my guitar gently weeps
