old clothes

Those old shirts and skirts
the ones I couldn’t part with
they survived the previous closet purges
maybe I liked the material
maybe I liked the way they felt when I wore them
But I never did wear them anymore
couldn’t
even
take ’em out of the closet
I’d start to, but then I’d remember
a day
a time
the person I bought them for
and I’d hang them back up
I couldn’t wear them
but I couldn’t throw ‘em away either
at least, not until this weekend
out they went
(in a garbage bag!)
they’re nice clothes
they just don’t fit anymore
the ones I couldn’t part with

maybe I liked the way they felt when I wore them
But I never did wear them anymore

I like it a lot, but I got excited when I saw the tittle. For some reason it made my mind go rampid. I imagined it as being old clothes, the ones you wouldn't part with because there is always something comforting about them. I like your angle
And I won't make the same mistakes
(Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
(And function)
Function is the key
Yeah, well this IS a variation on that. These were clothes I liked but kept too long. Not the comforting ones. The ones that had too many other things attached to them...yet I couldn't throw them out before.
To get rid of them has the good effect of cleaning out all those memories too and making room for new clothes (literally, 'cuz there's more room in the closet) but also new clothes as far as a future without those old thoughts.

The variation is what made this good! It's good to make room. I'm sure some new, good memories will come to be attached to them as I'm sure you gave them to charity.
I'm having trouble throwing away anything, including old clothes..
I liked the end, nice twist.
I really like your thoughts on this and your poem. Really nice.
