waking

Sometimes I wake up with a thought that feels like a gift from elsewhere-- and this morning--the messenger came with a package. I woke up thinking about how often people don’t approach things in a practical manner so without realizing it, they are bound to fail at what they are attempting.

It’s clear to me when I see others doing this...for example, because it’s my field, I notice how ridiculous it is for people to have fantasies of playing instruments without practicing, or attempting to sing with no ear or voice, but there are so many other things that applies this to.

And this morning, I was thinking about how every failure can be linked back to impracticality of one form or another. Maybe a person doesn’t have the necessary talent? Maybe the person hasn’t figured out what materials are required for a task? Maybe they truly aren’t willing to take the actions required to do something? It’s true that we all are the products of our habits and our own actions!!

Anyway, I think my messanger was reminding me of this. Be practical in all attempts to do anything if you don’t want to fail. And make sure you're willing to do what's actually required!! And if you don't know what's required, make darn sure you find out!! :D:D:D

  • Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. (Nelson Mandela's 1994 Inauguration Speech).
Can't you see that there's light in the dark.
Nothing's quite what it seems in the city of dreams.

I like what you added here bluejourneyman. :)

That phrase "There is nothing enlightened about shrinking yourself so that other people won't feel insecure around you" is something I've been aware of and thought about since I was quite young...how often I've shrunk myself for just that reason... :)
