Joy days

My little one has been working for
a snow day for quite a while
he wears his pajamahas inside out
and big white socks to bed
all because a teacher once told him it'd help
and though it's white here often
schools don't shut down!
other towns, all around, they close
but not ours...
so he woke up worried
"We'll miss the announcements, come on!"
and finally I could say:
Nope, we're on the list, it's a snow day

You know about snow, don't you? It's a pain when you need to drive in it, but it's fun to play in if you don't have to go no where. :)

    It should have been:

other towns, all around, they close down

You're lucky cate. I HATE the cold weather.

I try to make the best of it because of our jobs, etc., but I really don't like living in this cold very much.

I don't see much of it, these days. That's global warming for ya! But this poem reminds me of one snowy day about four years ago, when the whole country came to a standstill because someone forgot to send the gritters out. I nearly did myself a mischief, pushing other people's stalled cars for them out of sympathy ... :)

I used to pray for snow days all the time as a kid, growing up in New York and Connecticut. Back in 1973 our town was shut down for an entire week during an ice storm....I lived in New Canaan, Connecticut at the time, and yes, that's what the movie The Ice Storm is all about.

My mother and my two older sisters and I all slept together in the living room, with the pull-out sofa and a beach lounge chair and tons of blankets. Cooked dinner with a sterno. And then one day, out of boredom, we played charades. My oldest sister Debbie was trying to act out the title of a song, which happened to be Tony Orlando's "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree" and when it came to the 9th word, Debbie simply pointed to our Christmas tree, whose lights had not been on for a week due to the power failure....and what do you know, but the minute she pointed to the tree, the lights came back on.

I still pray for snow days. Always do. Always will.
    Feels Good Inc.
