In old stories
about prisoners in remote towers,
there’d be joy
I ’ m s u r e
on the day the confined one
realised that all the surrepticious digging
finally broke through to fresh air
I can imagine that
maybe there’d be...
dancing?
grinning?
hopping about?
I don’t know,
but it seems to me
that everyday would feel
better than the last
from the moment the light winked through
and each day would be
bearable because freedom was getting
closer
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
