That feeling my eyes get before they fill with tears
it sat there for a while today, filling the interior of my car
so, as I was driving on the highway the air felt entirely heavy
I noticed that it's pre-language, like an infant before speech
the legs kick, the face scrunches, the whole body exudes that need for help
it's the same energy reaching out
but, in an adult, there may be no movement
there may be no sound
but it filled up that metal box
just the same
