This night

justam

This night, a slim creation
something that holds the intimation
of my solid determination
to hold my hope
and somehow cope
with the passing days
I've seen how time often defeats
people when it seems to eat
their hearts as easily as a rat nibbles a wire
I could be asleep, dreaming a dream and not know it
loving a musician and poet
all this feeling with only words to stow it
yet, phrases come to mind that need exclamation
but, hush, shhhhh
too precious to make the slightest intimation (!)
for after all, it may be my own creation
an imaginative adaptation
of the truth
here I am thinking of that vision that greets
my mind's eye, perhaps it meets
with steady love, my desire
and I want to know what's true!
quite a lot of words
but kisses, not swords
to fly over warm seas
with my feet tucked under my knees
maybe on a well-made carpet?
Oh oh, I'm probably still dreaming and don't know it
