the steel cage of the courts
keeps the hopes
of a few alive
as they drive towards the hoops
hoping for the fast break
that gets them out of the hood
the reality of the surroundings
highlighted as the ball
bounces off the broken glass
and empty syringes
that pocket their existance
mocks them and the dreams
of a better life
gunfire breaks out
blood soaks into the asphalt
dying
his eyes focus
on a needle that lies before him
he never shot up
anything more than a basketball
yet drugs killed him all the same

  • flew like spilt burgundy
    from a colbalt glass
    past ivory tinkers
    onto oil-bound sand and gravel
    and the lights
    get vacuumed up
    to the sky
to the greater thang going on up there
while a woman with her own climate
    cry
    there go the neighborhood

shit, who she trying to play?

    neighborhood been gone

    put enough people
    in a small enough space
    add poverty
    bigotry
    and fear

    and bang

    bang

    bang

    bang motherfucking bang

    you dead

    he dead

    she dead

and ain't nothing nobody gonna do about it
    ~all is full of love~
  • Broken
    Mangled
    A tattered shell
    Of what once was
    A beautiful life
    It was given unselfishly
    It was taken needlessly
Like a candy swiped from the corner store

  • the child passes the store
sees the candy in the jar
slows his step to get a closer look
    mom tugs his arm
yanks his ass back up to her
as they hurry to their destination
an alley at 5th and broadmoar
there a man in a denim jacket
hands her a bag of rock
    she hands him her child
as the wimpers of his violation
    echo from the darkness
    she lights her pipe
    shuts her eyes
    inhales her way
    to forgivness

    "She puts the kid away
And she's gone to get a hit
    She hates her life
And what she's done to it
    That's one more kid
    Who'll never go to school
Never get to fall in love
    Never get to be cool

Keep on rocking in the free world"
