old stuff........

**************

a virgin snow
covers the ground
in a pristine blanket
twinkleing lights
cast a colored reflection
adding to the wonder of christmas

inside...
a child sits
in nervous anticipation
her mind alive
senses overloaded
with the sights
sounds
and smells
of christmas

a fire crackles
in the hearth
filling the room
with warmth
the air is filled
with the aroma
of pine
the tree is dressed
in glowing lights
shining orbs
and freshly strung corn
popped just for this night
packages spill forth
from under the tree
wrapped in bright paper
which waits to be torn
revealing the secrets
hidden within

silent night plays
from another room
while on t.v.
charles brown
picks out a tree
whose beauty
only he can see
the kitchen
fills
with the sound of laughter
as the grown ones
relive memories
of christmas' past
by the tree
children gather
eyes wide open
to the possibilities
of christmas present
young and old alike
hope for christmas future

the child takes
a final look
nose pressed
against the pane
looking to the heavens
hoping for a glimpse
of a magical sleigh

she marvels
at the beauty
of christmas

she lies in her bed
tucked in for the night
awaiting the slumber
that will usher forth
the magical morn'
aware that the house
is alive with the sights
sounds
and smells
of christmas
as she drifts off to sleep
she is comforted
to know
the house
is filled
with the love
of christmas

  • that was beautiful until she wakes up and realizes it was all a dream and she is no longer the child but the adult trying to explain to the child who is asking her is santa claus and magic are real cause the kids at school told him none of it was true and what you thought existed never did and one day you are decorating your 40th christmas tree and it doesn't smell because your family doens't believe in nature or cleaning up pine needles and you ask god to help you say the right thing to your child because he is asking you to give him a perspective you don't have anymore and you also realize you are asking god for help and he is just an unreal sometimes as mr. clauz.
  • yea i know.....

    this is from last year.....

    drunken santa
    staggers up the street
    took to the booze
    when suzie
    stopped believing
    lost his home
    when timmy
    lost the faith
    traded in
    his burlap bag
    filled with love and hope
    for a brown paper sack
    holding md 20/20
    dried up urine
    dulls once
    shiney boots
    beard and suit
    blackend from the filth
    of living in the street
    drunken santa
    takes a swig
    as another child
    loses the belief
    for all things
    filled with magic
    then
    staggers up the street
  • thought you burned
    not froze for your sins

    let
    me
    sleep
    it's
    christmas time

christmas would be a lot different if it occured two days after the longest day of the year... just like jesus's supposed real birth....

    ah well

I am at a loss for words...................I was expecting the usual "black" poem and you come out with this. Then the second one came around and it was back to the norm. Both were good though.
You've changed your place in this world!
  • I have to agree with e.f.? the first was uncharacteristicly cheery and fabulous and the second was definately the unseen we've come to know and love and was still great!

  • the fire trucks are long gone
    so are his possesions
    save for one
    he clutches as he
    kicks thru the ashes
of what was once his home
he stands where the tree was
    glimmering and bright
topped with the star of david
presents stood tall underneith tinsle covered branches
    faulty wiring started the blaze
    now he's homeless
all he has are the clothes on his back
and the book he clutches to his heart
he sits down amongst the rubble
and reads about the birth of christ
it's celebration the reason for the tree in the first place
like joseph and mary seeking shelter for the night
    he knows he'll be alright
his heart is full with his love for jesus
as tears drip onto the pages
    it starts to snow

One might say this kinda has a moral to the story---it shows the true meaning of Christmas. I'm not a religious person myself but I find this quite moving and tender and sweet!

Presents all wrapped up in ribbons and bows are all we tend to think about at this time of year.

I hope everyone will spare some change for at least one homeless person this holiday season!

I saw the exact same moral when I finished reading it. nice words for the holiday season unseen.
There have been shows where maybe the whole first half of the show my eyes have been closed. and then you'll look out in the crowd and there'll be somebody totally lost in their head, in exactly the same place you're in. That, to me, is the essence of music
