The clock hurls the second hand sledge
through a veneer of wasted time
trying to coax my guitar
into song
some painful rendition of
Ode to Joy
or Come As You Are
but we sit
my sister and I
choked and muted
checked and afraid to speak
we had traded poorly strummed riffs
before Dad left
we traded dodged glares after
maybe he went
to get me a beginner's book
for my new guitar
is that what
"Kiss my ass"
means in code?
