Reject the one moment I felt closest to you
Forget those few kisses that made it to the daylight
The nearest I ever came to holding you
Was whispering my heart into your neck
I left part of me there
On your skin
On that couch
In that room
When my lips were graced
By your gentle touch
But when you would rather forget
I would rejoice
In all of these moments
In the life of my love for you
All we could find the power to do
Was discuss
Reminisce
And flail in the sand, for we did nothing
But we did do something
Finally, I bled an ounce of my longing for you
Watched it drift across your skin
And flow over your body
As the glow of sunrise
Spills across your bedroom floor
I felt your breath quicken
Heard the faintest whimper
Begging me to continue
I couldn't love you more
Only a minor reprieve,
But reprieve nonetheless,
From the monotony of the cacophony
"We should have" and "Why didn't we?"
Mingle to create
A kiss
One of the millions I would die to give you
Left on your neck
A kiss you wish to forget
Millions you wish to deny
The crowning achievement,
My crown of thorns,
The trophy I will always remember my love for you by,
Is that request to erase it from my memories
I'll never do it
That night was not a dream
You told me last night that it was
But that night was not a dream
I won't allow it to be
So, please, forgive me this last transgression
For I would like to keep this one small token:
The scent of your hair on that single night
When I came closest to holding you
So that I may fill the void where that one escaped kiss
Once waited to die on your lips

I'm not a huge fan of this one, but I really like the last two lines... and another post I read on here this morning reminded me of it... so there!
i don't think i need to read anything else today. i'll be weeping in the corner should anyone be looking for me.
beautiful cmr, really very beautiful. and a perfect example of how one person's trash is another's treasure. it may be a throw-away to you (save the last two lines) but its the whole world for me this morning.

Hee! Hee! There you go again! And all that talk about cod pieces is making me crave seafood and I'd just love to have a nice chunk of crab or a lobster in front of me right now! It's only 10am! I think that would truly be THE breakfast of champions!

That reminds me of the line in the Red Hot Chili Peppers song Nobody Weird Like Me ---- "Intercourse with a porpoise" (which is another word for a whale for those who don't know).
And sure I'll take some whale penis and since I'm going all out, put it on some doughy white bread too!

the visuals of this piece are very vivid, my mind coloring in the details with lightning speed. love spurned does not necessarily mean it will not present itself again, in fact, once loved, i think it becomes easier to recognize all the best things about those feelings and keep them close to your heart.
i especially love the last line about the kiss dying on the lips, that feeling is with me every day. gorgeous... no, that night was not a dream, it was sheer bliss.
All of my forays into love, failed, realized, whatever... have all painted for me a picture of what love is to me. The girl this poem is for presented a new hue to me which I've since very intricately woven into my emotional tapestry.
She may be gone from my romantic life, but I've learned so much from the feelings I had.
