When I was 16
Colleen Kaufman had her revenge on her parents
Kelly was my physics lab partner
I remember she was gone for a few weeks
after her little sister had her revenge on her parents
And I remember no one said much when she came back
She wasn't really with us
after her little sister had her revenge on her parents
I did all the lab work
It was fine with me
She didn't say much, so I didn't ask
But I had read about it in the newspaper a few days after she left
so I knew... sort of
we all knew
some silly pretty freshman had her revenge on her parents
with a revolver in the field behind the house
Print didn't do justice
to the silence in physics class
when her sister drifted back in
But Kelly Kaufman got straight A's that semester
from deep within a catatonic sea lain calm as a paradox
The school district empathized
when her fragile little sister took her revenge on her parents
They paid dearly for breaking her heart
