"Hard Times"

This is the first thing in months I wrote
Been up all night, just thinkin’ to myself
Already gone through all the books upon my shelf
I know it’s getting late
My head’s not thinkin’ straight
Someone always knockin’ at my door
Preacher preachin’ down my street
So many people there for him to greet
Says if he wins
He’ll destroy all sin
I wonder who he’s workin’ for
It’s hard times in the city
Hard times in the country
It’s hard times, everything you do
Stick with me, baby, and I’ll stick with you
And when I fin’lly get some sleep
Bury my bones in a ditch so deep
Nothin’matters to me now
Time to milk the cow
The thirst inside my body is bone dry
Allen Ginsberg was so kind
Loving and caring and a good friend of mine
Died for the thoughts in his head
So I’ll stop thinkin’ instead
I’ll just sit beside his grave and cry
It's hard times in the country
Hard times in the city
Hard times, everything you do
Stick with me, baby, and I'll stick with you
No chance in hell for surviving this game
Shoot me now like a horse that’s lame
Seem like all is lost
Everybody pays a cost
Life, at times, seems like one big evil scheme
I got me a woman cookin’ all my meals
She got no idea how good she make me feel
When everything goes wrong
She sings me a song
She makes every moment a dream
It's hard times in the country
Hard times in the city
Hard times, everything you do
Stick with me, baby, and I'll stick with you
Been up all night, just thinkin’ to myself
Already gone through all the books upon my shelf
