My poem to Bob
When your eyes won't close and your mind won't open
And all your least expensive items get stolen
When your head's bowed down and your mouth's wide shut
You've been hit so low all you can do is look up
It's lonely sometimes walking down the road with a hole in your shoe
By the time you realize it I'll be miles ahead of you
If you feel like you're drowning cause you know you can't swim
Just look at the shape all the poor people are in
Who'll rip off your pants and the shirt off your back
Steel your car and ten minutes later ask you for a car jack
You can say all the words that you know you don't mean
Half way down the river you run out of steam
You pinch yourself to make sure it's a dream
But all you're really doing is watching a TV screen
And your friends are all the actors in some far off play
By this time you won't have anything left to say
When you're thinking too slow but you're moving too fast
And you're talking too much and stepping on sidewalk cracks
Life's slow motion race ends and you finish last
Everything you've said you'll wish you could take it all back
When the sun goes under and the moon comes out
You'll finally be accepted by the ones who you used to doubt
You can't please everyone with a ten minute song
For some people that's just too damn long
And your mind fades out to the tune that you're playing
And no one can understand a word that you're saying
You stand up in from of them with a hammer and nails
But now the distrust you and put you in a garbage pale
When you leave behind your friends and the children you've abandoned
After they've stolen the bolders you find a pebble to stand on
Then reach down and twist their legs, their arms, their hands
You'll then find out this world is bigger than any one man
By this time you'll still be strumming your song
You'll finally look up and see everybody has gone
When your time comes up and you find yourself alone
It's all you can think about but you can't go home
Because home is the paradise that you've never known
And even when you get their you'll still be on your own
The world that we know is being slashed by a knife
You know it when someone gets rich with the roll of a dice
And the workers of the world are finding it hard to survive
In this high-class society that we know as life
You'll be hyped and typed by magazines and papers
And kicked to the curb by all the nay-sayers
When the sand begins to sink and you're starting to sweat
You can't go to bed cause your eyes won't close yet
Take out your favorite book by some little know author
But you never finished school so why even bother
You can't read the page numbers, you can't read the title
You even missed your child's Christmas recital
Outside is getting hot but your heart is still cold
You know you're not young but you wish you weren't so old
And the only goal that you've never achieved
Is not one you can see but rather have to believe
When your brain gets twisted and your head's in a jam
On the side of the road you find a dead lamb
The world's getting smaller and the people are crammed
You'll think to yourself and wonder if this life is a sham
When the hard rain's a-fallin' and the clouds wont' clear
And the only thing you have to fear is your reflection in the mirror
You think of the past and a single tear
Runs down your face cause the end's almost near
Don't be alarmed by the things you've just heard
Cause I'm only a child and not very good with words
But take them and measure and decipher what you want
You'll find this pen and paper's the only posession I've got
It's hard sometimes growing up in a world that's not real
When what you think in your heart is not how you feel
You're sitting on your hands waiting for someone to call
Your closest companion's your sister's collection of dolls
By this time you're sitting with your back to the wall
You're six feet in height but feel less than two feet tall
Your pen's running out of ink and you're starting to think
Don't tire yourself out and let yourself sink
It's not worth the hassle to get out of the mess you're in
You're blind now cause your eyes don't blink
The sun comes out and it gets a little colder
Your heart warms up but you're still a day older
But they weight you've carried so long on your shoulder
Finally gives way and who find your friends who stole all the bolders
And you get up on one and hold your head high and proud
But everyone's gone deaf so you have to scream loud
You're scared of the night because you're afraid of the dark
You find comfort in the fact that you're truly a star
And nothing else matter except the love of family
And it just so happens that's the goal you've never achieved
So when the days ahead of you look dark and the nights look long
All I can say is thank you Bob Dylan for singing you songs
When your eyes won't close and your mind won't open
And all your least expensive items get stolen

But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

"Remember the times'"
I heard what he said
When he told them to turn up the guitars.
The laughter is fading, like a sunny afternoon.
In the shouting hollers, like a engine waiting
For the ignition too subtle, to start.
Stop all you can
Remember your time changed only by the weather.
All you can
Remember your time is refused
Only when you refuse to them
When your hand strikes the clock.
Either the disappointed disappear.
Or stop all you can
When the man said,
“Keep on rolling.”
Did you ever go?
To think when the man said,
“Praise the lord.”
Did you ever look to the steeple?
And wonder what’s up there?
And wonder who goes there?
And maybe I am a mistake,
But here I am within the congregation of faith,
Congress has questioned my innocence.
You did or did you,
Not have the time to believe them?
The matrix is hairspray and lipstick.
Static heads in congress and lips stuck between us.
Big car, bigger gas tank.
Long line, farther party after.
Whoever you are, whatever.
Forever, as I am a slogan,
A hanged man on marquee.
A old tree four stories further before dying.
And you,
After they carved the bark I had left, they bit.
In another one hundred years I’ll give you another breath,
For one last kiss, if you listen to my final story.
I’ll tell them to chew on a rock, and hear their own blood thereafter,
At the top of your tongue, from zero to me infinitely.
Because the weather has changed and my time has escaped.
And you will be here later, then they can.
Stop all you can.
Remember your time changed only by the weather.
All you can.
Remember your time will refuse,
Only when you refused
To them when your hand strikes the sky.
Either they are disappointed, or you disappear!
See the distance, from sea to sea.
Remember the ‘times?
I heard what he said.
I posted this poem on the wallflowers message board and one girl, geez, she shot me down so bad. But that's ok, she thought it was important enough to reply to it
Is it inspired by the poem that Bob wrote for Woody Guthrie? 'Last thoughts on Woody Guthrie' i think it's called, on one of the bootlegs.
...If it is inspired from this, take a look at the poem i wrote (it should still be on the first page of this forum) ...it's untitled - but i wrote it with this style of poetry very much in mind. It's obviously nowhere near as in depth or beautiful as yours, but it is my miniscule interprtation.
Once again - congratualtions, it was a PLEASURE to read
