Some men ain't born to die, they're born for life
Who close their eyes in the day and open them at night
Who'll never see heaven for they're afraid of flight
Who'll live in fear of what might have been
When he returns on Earth and then
He heals the wounded and gives the blind sight
And my children, when born won't be slaves, they'll be free
Some men ain't born to live for they're only born to die
Who'll never see the ocean and who'll never feel the sky
And others are born finding it hard to survive
While the river's flooding up under quick
Treading high waters so they don't sink
They'll live out their lives watching the world pass them by
And my children, when born won't be slaves, they'll be free
The highway's been torn the sun's beating down
There's no way in or out of this town
Somewhere out there is a king wearing a crown
And his queen's been left out to hang
Out in the lightning, thunder and rain
The clash of the waves roaring a thunderous sound
And my children, when born won't be slaves, they'll be free
The sky it is free through all of it's many colors
Though much of it's red through the eyes of my brothers
As they head off to war just to kill one another
So someone can earn a little more
At the price of a civil war
Spending millions just to make one more dollar
And my children, when born won't be slaves, they'll be free
Who close their eyes in the day and open them at night
Who'll never see heaven for they're afraid of flight
Who'll live in fear of what might have been
When he returns on Earth and then

And my children, when born won't be slaves, they'll be free
