My Personal Stephen Hawking................
even flow?

Or: Equality Of Life
Locked in a wrap of skin
Not unlike all of us:
"Can you break up some of my chocolate bar
And just place it here, please
I can reach it better there"
The voice is now reduced
To a slow, drawn, whine
Forced.........
Then recessed with an almost, panicked gasp
The brain
Long ago disconnected from the limbs
A t.v. converter
Weighing at least ten pounds
Held in a skeletal looking hand
Two fingers and a thumb
Grasp with all their might
Shaking in your hand
You have learned the converter
Dosen't need to be pointed straight at the target
Tiredly, you ask;
"Can you set the VCR for the EMMYs?"
The least of things I could do
If I could go to medical school
Specialize in ALS
And, you could wait
For me to make you well
So you could just hug me
One more time
Now, used to your loss of dignity
We finish up our cold coffees
You take you last sip through the straw
Out of the glass I'm holding for her
As the visit wraps up
I assure, that I will call tomorrow
You check to make sure
Everything is positioned in the right place
Especially the six pieces of chocolate
Reserved for the baseball game
That starts in three hours from now
Once I leave
The only view that changes
Are the nurses and the t.v. screen
Locked in a wrap of skin
